Imagine if artificial intelligence, with all its power and control over shaping information and influencing public opinion, was adorned with the Palestinian keffiyeh and became fair to the Palestinian people and their just causes. In an era where the effects of artificial intelligence on collective consciousness and the formation of historical and social narratives are multiplying, there is an urgent need to direct this technology towards uses that contribute to supporting justice, freedom and fairness. Let us imagine for a moment if smart tools and models emerged from the narrative of the Palestinian people, to express their voice and hopes, and contribute to supporting their right to freedom and emancipation. In light of the great dominance that technology dominates, there is a noticeable absence of the true Palestinian narrative in the content produced by artificial intelligence. This narrative, which reflects the facts of the daily lives of our Palestinian people, and the stories of ongoing struggle and steadfastness, remains absent from traditional artificial intelligence productions, as these models rely primarily on available information that may be unfair or reflect certain points of view. In this context, it seems that artificial intelligence needs to be “redirected” so that it becomes a platform that expresses the injustices suffered by our heroic people. If AI were to wear the Palestinian keffiyeh, its ability to produce videos, texts, and images could be used to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people and document their daily struggles realistically and objectively. Imagine that language models known as LLM, for example, adopt a language that highlights the challenges facing Palestinians while reflecting their deep culture. These models would produce texts that show the reality of the conflict in a way that mimics reality, rather than biased towards misleading narratives that serve certain agendas. If these tools were designed to take into account the Palestinian narrative, it would be possible to create images that show the lives of Palestinians realistically and beautifully, expressing a mixture of conflicting emotions, about steadfastness and determination, about longing for land and freedom. The images would be like talking paintings that shed light on the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the details of their daily lives, as these images would be a window for the world to see the truth away from distortion or omission. In the field of video, artificial intelligence can play an effective role in producing short films that document the suffering of Palestinian families and bring their stories closer to the world. These tools can highlight scenes from the lives of Palestinian refugees in camps and tell stories of suffering and hope. If artificial intelligence is designed to be an authentic platform for our people and our cause, it will revive scenes that reflect the challenges we live through daily, and at the same time, it will convey to others a feeling that they are part of this story and this situation. Because artificial intelligence relies on data to build its outputs, it will play a vital role in providing real data that reflects the history of our people and their sacrifices. Such data will be the basis for directing models towards a fair and objective narrative about our cause. To achieve this goal, we must work to develop tools that operate according to ethical standards, take into account transparency and fairness in conveying narratives and facts, and avoid biases that may be imposed by the censor’s scissors, large companies, or the systems that control this technology. From an ethical perspective, AI developers and tech companies must realize the great responsibility they have in directing this technology to serve the causes of justice and human rights. They must understand that the Palestinian cause is a humanitarian cause before it is political, and that technology can play a crucial role in correcting concepts and clarifying facts to the world.
The AI wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh means that there is a commitment to conveying the voice of the Palestinian people and highlighting the justice of their cause.
Therefore, this move towards fairness using AI will not be just a technical process, but rather part of an ethical movement calling for the use of technology to support rights and justice. It is an investment in a future vision that makes AI a tool for peace and freedom, not a tool for control and misinformation. With this approach, AI can contribute to building bridges between peoples and conveying human stories that touch the world’s conscience.
The idea behind “the AI wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh” is an embodiment of the Palestinian people’s hope that their voices will be heard, their stories will be known, and their culture and struggle will be celebrated, far from injustice and neglect.
